معرفی کتاب سرافینا و شنل سیاه از نگاه کاربران
Serafina lives in the basement of the Bilmore House, unseen by any but her pa. Theyve lived there secretly since the house was built, and her pa has always cautioned her never to be seen. So Serafina scuttles around the house at night, taking joy in catching any rat she comes across. (That she catches them and then throws them outside the Housess walls is my first annoyance--it seems so anachronistic and against (view spoiler)[Serafinas true nature of were-mountain lion (hide spoiler)].) Then one night she sees a terrifying man spread his black cloak across a little girl and swallow her whole. From then on, Serafina is on a mission to discover who and what the man in the black cloak is. Shes swiftly joined by the sensitive, animal-loving Vanderbilt heir, and together they solve the mystery.

I did not like this book. Part of it is that its written for children, so the clues and allusions are too obvious and clunky for me to enjoy. But mostly my problem is that this felt like a book that was written on the fly, with the author not sure what was going on in the first chapters, and deciding on solutions and changing up details in later chapters. So Serafina, for instance, has a personality that wobbles all over the place, with her apparent age and knowledge varying by chapter. Shes spent her entire life exploring Biltmore House and has never gone outside, but somehow A)goes outside in the daylight for the first time without any qualms or amazement, B)knows things like that shes allergic to poison ivy, and C)is amazed and surprised by the appearances of various Biltmore House rooms. Not only is this sloppy characterization, but it played into my feeling that this whole book was just an underhanded tourist advertisement for Biltmore House.

Леко съм разочарован!... Гледах и четох толкова добри ревюта за тази книга и смело мога да кажа, че не е моята... може би съм надраснал времето й... финала ми се видя нелеп и... да не е моята...

The perfect book for any 10 year or older child that loves a fearless and brave protagonist. My favorite quote and theme of the book is this @Our character isnt defined by the battles we win or lose, but by the battles we dare to fight.@ If you like this quote then I think you will love this spooky and mysterious novel. Not to mention that it has a beautiful cover that draws you in immediately. It does have some violence but nothing very graphic for sensitive readers. I loved this and I am pretty sure my 10 year daughter will fall in love with Serafina. I especially liked the details about the Biltmore Estate which were pretty accurate to the tour I took this past April. It was very easy to visualize this place and its characters. Highly recommend. Robert Beatty is a great new voice to childrens literature.

I must admit that I started listening to this without knowing that it was aimed at readers aged 8-12. I think because of this the book was only okay for me. I listened to the audio, and although I enjoyed the Southern accents, reading may have been a better option, as my attention kept drifting. I liked Serafina - she was sweet, unique and brave. This will be a good book for young readers, if they dont scare easy.
The Story: Twelve-year-old Serafina isn’t quite like other girls. She has golden eyes, not a single friend, and lives secretly in the basement of the grand Biltmore Estate with her father, the estate’s maintenance man.
